Bits of Borno: Arts and Photography for Memorialisation and Healing | Maiduguri, 2025 (ongoing)
The Fati Abubakar Arts Foundation (FAAF) is a registered non-profit organisation in Nigeria. The Foundation uses visual arts to showcase life of ordinary Nigerians in a positive and uplifting way.
Bits of Borno is a project that chronicles the everyday lives of people in communities around Borno, North-Eastern Nigeria where there has been a decade long conflict caused by the deadly Islamist armed group, Boko Haram. The project documents local cultures, life in conflict zones, urban poverty, rural development and humanitarian issues.
As a Creative Trainer, I equipped participants from Borno State with the skills to create impactful story telling. During the workshop phase, I delivered a focused curriculum, guiding participants to share lived experiences, in order to promote healing, and contribute to community-led truth-telling. Afterwards, I began mentoring participants with the aim of publishing their narratives.
Muryan Mata: The Voice of Women | Kaduna, 2025
Muryan Mata (MM) means “Voice of Women” in Hausa. This project was an immersive experience of art and vocation that brought together high-profile leaders to engage, educate and create.
Muryan Mata comprised two major segments: the Mentorship programme and the Muryan Mata festival. The Mentorship Programme was designed to support and equip women in Kaduna and Northern Nigeria with the necessary knowledge and skills in the fields of visual art, dance, writing and photography.
As the Creative Writing Mentor, I facilitated workshops on the elements of writing and storytelling.
